Even though this year's edition of the tour isn't even half over, the tracklisting for "Ozzfest 2002: The Live Album" has been finalized. The audio document of the trek will boast 16 tracks, and is due out Sept. 3 via Columbia (a previous version of this story erroneously reported the set would be released via Epic).
The set features contributions from a host of the tour's main and second stage acts, including System Of A Down ("Needles"), P.O.D. ("Outkast"), Down ("Ghosts Along the Mississippi"), and Ill Nino ("Liar"). In addition to a cover of Metallica's "Creeping Death" by Drowning Pool, and tracks by Rob Zombie, Hatebreed, Flaw, Pulse Ultra, and others, the disc will also include backstage footage, live performances, and interviews via Sony's ConnecteD technology.
Zakk Wylde -- guitarist in tour founder Ozzy Osbourne's band and leader of his own act, Black Label Society -- appears on three tracks on the album. He plays on Osbourne's run through the Black Sabbath classic "War Pigs" that opens the collection, leads Black Label Society through "Berzerkers" from the band's latest album, "1919 Eternal" (Spitfire), and guests with Soil on that group's performance of "Halo."
"Ozzfest 2002: The Live Album" closes with Ozzy's daughter Kelly joining Andrew W.K. on the latter's "She Is Beautiful." The track is Kelly's second foray into a recording career, having contributed a cover of Madonna's "Papa Don't Preach" to "The Osbourne Family Album." Released in June, that Epic compilation themed after the family's hit MTV series debuted at No. 13 on The Billboard 200.
As previously reported, the first season of "The Osbournes" will be released later this year on DVD by Buena Vista Home Video. The 20-episode second season will get underway in the late fall, and part of its focus will be following Ozzy's wife and manager, Sharon Osbourne, as she undergoes chemotherapy for cancer.
Ozzy planned to take several weeks off from the tour to be with Sharon, but will return to the tour today (Aug. 7) as the festival kicks off a two-day stand at the DTE Energy Center in Clarkston, Mich. After nearly passing out during one of his wife's treatments, she realized "that Ozzy is better off on the road so she's shipped him back out to finish Ozzfest." He is expected to remain with the tour through its planned Sept. 8 finale at the Smirnoff Amphitheatre in Dallas.
