Willie Nelson, Marianne Faithfull, Ryan Adams, Tweet, and Jakob Dylan of the Wallflowers will be seen and heard performing in television ads as part of clothing retailer Gap's "For Every Generation" global marketing campaign. In their separate men's jeans spots, Adams and Nelson will each put their spin on Hank Williams' "Move It on Over." Tweet and Faithfull, meanwhile, will each sing the Staple Singers' "I'll Take You There" in ads for women's jeans.
In a separate ad, Dylan sings an acoustic rendition of Elvis Costello's "What's So Funny ('Bout Peace, Love and Understanding)." Other spots will feature celebrities as well as the music of John Lee Hooker ("Boom Boom") and the American Breed ("Bend Me, Shape Me").
Nelson will also be among the more than 50 personalities that will make up a Gap print campaign that will also feature Natalie Imbruglia and Kris Kristofferson, as well as actors Sissy Spacek, Christian Slater, Lauren Hutton, and Bill Paxton, and hockey icon Wayne Gretzky, among others.
"We selected a broad range of personalities who each have a highly defined individual style" Laird+Partners president/executive creative director Trey Laird in a statement. "We worked with each person to create their own look in Gap jeans -- keeping it personal, authentic, and real."
