Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton Duet on 'Go Ahead and Break My Heart' in Detroit: Watch
"It's a different level of special for me tonight," Gwen Stefani told the crowd about two-thirds of the way through her show at the DTE Energy Music Theatre Tuesday night in suburban Detroit. And she wasn't kidding.
A few seconds later Stefani's squeeze Blake Shelton strode on stage for a rendition of their hit country duet "Go Ahead and Break My Heart" from Shelton's latest album, If I'm Honest. Both Shelton and Stefani, as well as the four members of her band, grinned broadly as they worked their way through the song, and the couple gave each other a warm squeeze after they finished, with Stefani going on to finish the 26-song show.
Shelton and Stefani have performed "Go Ahead and Break My Heart" live several times, starting with its debut on the May 9 episode of The Voice and on the same date an iHeartRadio private concert. They also played it at this year's Billboard Music Awards on May 22, during Shelton's set June 18 at the Country Jam in Colorado and at Stefani's concert on July 16 in Virginia Beach, Va.
Stefani had already declared the night special, noting to the Michigan audience that "my dad is from Eight Mile (Road), Detroit!" She later spoke about picturing her father traveling to Lake Michigan while he lived there and told the fans, "I feel like I'm connected to you -- 'cause I am. I feel like this needs to be one of the best nights of my life."
Stefani's This Is What The Truth Feels Like Tour continues Thursday in Toronto and wraps Oct. 16 at The Forum in Inglewood, Calif. Shelton plays NBC's Today Show Summer Concerts series on Friday in New York City and has his own dates booked into October, including a two-night stand at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
