Released yesterday (Aug. 13) via Steamhammer/SPV Records, the set features guest appearances by Bob Dylan, Stereophonics singer Kelly Jones, and longtime Elvis Presley cohorts guitarist Scotty Moore and drummer DJ Fontana.
Also appearing on the 13-track album is former Roxy Music drummer Andy Newmark, veteran session bassist Willie Weeks, and Wood's son Jessie (guitar) and daughter Leah (vocals). Highlights include a cover of Eddie Holland's "Leaving Here" and the song "Rock N' Roll Star," which is based on the Byrds' classic "So You Want To Be a Rock'N'Roll Star." A streaming audio version of the latter is available via the SPV Records Web site.
As talented with a paint brush as he is with a guitar, Wood's paintings adorn the new album's cover and liner notes. SPV is also readying a Ronnie Wood concert DVD. Aside from the title, "Far East Man," details have not been released, nor has a specific release date been set.
"Not for Beginners" is the follow-up to Wood's 1992 studio album "Slide On This," released via the now defunct New Jersey-based Continuum label.
As previously reported, the Rolling Stones will kick off a world tour Sept. 3 in Boston, which will play a mix of arena, stadium, and club dates in North America before heading to Europe, Australia, and Asia. No Doubt, the Pretenders, Sheryl Crow, Buddy Guy, and Jonny Lang are among the support acts.
The Stones have also recorded four new tracks for an upcoming retrospective double-disc set for an Oct. 1 release via Virgin (Sept. 30 outside North America; Sept. 23 in Japan). The 40-song compilation, titled "Forty Licks," is the first such release to span the group's entire career.
Here is the "Not for Beginners" track listing:
"This Little Heart"
"R.U. Behaving Yourself"
"Wake Up You Beauty"
"Real Hard Rocker"
"Heart, Soul and Body"
