"Stranger at the bar asks me to smile more ... I’m happily unhappy, man," sings Lindsey Troy, one-half of Los Angeles-based duo Deap Vally, in what could easily be taken as a defense of so-called "resting bitch face," the sludgy song "Smile More."

The band, which includes drummer Julie Edwards, recently stopped by the set of Transmissions, the live music show hosted by radio veteran Nic Harcourt. The series, which has featured such artists as Pete Yorn, Rogue Wave, Silversun Pickups and Lucinda Williams, among others, wraps its current season on Aug. 2 after winning two Telly Awards
