The actress, known best for playing Tina Cohen-Chang on Fox's Glee, will join the Broadway musical Waitress on July 29, producers announced Tuesday. She will take over the role of the shy and skeptical server Dawn while Kimiko Glenn (who is currently filming Netflix's Orange Is the New Black) takes a leave of absence from the Brooks Atkinson Theatre show.

Waitress, the musical adaptation of the 2007 film, follows Jenna (Jessie Mueller), a pregnant diner waitress in the Deep South who makes extraordinary pies but is trapped in an abusive marriage. The Diane Paulus-directed production features a score by Sara Bareilles and is the first-ever Broadway musical with an all-female creative team.

Ushkowitz made her Broadway debut at age 9 in the 1996 revival of The King and I and was in the original production of Spring Awakening. She also was featured in the Hollywood Bowl staging of Hair alongside Kristen Bell, Amber Riley and Sarah Hyland and the Pittsburgh CLO performance of The Wedding Singer.

Onscreen, Ushkowitz will be seen next in Tom Gustafson's musical movie Hello, Again, alongside Audra McDonald, Martha Plimpton and Rumer Willis. She is repped by Paradigm Talent Agency and Emery Entertainment.
