Zayn Malik arrives at the 2016 Pre-Grammy Gala and Salute to Industry Icons honoring Irving Azoff held at The Beverly Hilton Hotel on Feb. 14, 2016 in Beverly Hills, Calif.

Zayn Malik has been busy fronting an altogether different type of band. The singer collaborated with Snakehips on the British electronic production duo’s new single “Cruel,” which can be streamed below.

The former One Direction star performs a moody vocal on the track, which dropped at midnight.

“Back where we left off/Watch you take your dress off/I've been by myself remembering you/Your body hurts me/Loopin' 'round like CCTV/In all this bitterness you stay so sweet,” he sings.

Snakehips, consisting of Oliver Lee and James Carter, is said to be working on a full-length album which will feature the Zayn collab, and other previously-released tracks starring Tinashe, Chance the Rapper, Anderson Paak and others.

Zayn, of course, has enjoyed an impressive start to his post-1D career. His debut solo single "Pillowtalk" hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 earlier this year, and its parent album Mind of Mine reached the summit of the Billboard 200.
