The new piece was directed by Garret Curtis, who tells Billboard, "I am moved by this song. I relate completely. Until you do it, you don't really ever know what to do, and so we were always too young. Daniel's honesty begs for the part in you that wants to be honest, and that's why I can't stop watching him."

Smith adds, "I told Garret that the song is arranged to mirror the different phases of my life so far, each section is a phase I have been through. It begins with a longing heaviness but ends in lightness and freedom. He brought it all back to life in this video."

Curtis previously directed T.O.L.D.'s "Master of the Species" video, which was released in May.
