Keith Caulfield answers readers' questions about Rod Stewart, Van Halen, and Madonna.

Hello Keith,

I heard that Rod Stewart's next CD, his first for J Records, is supposed to be a collection of standards from the 1920s '30s, and '40s. Is this true, and when will it be released?

Thank You,

Staten Island, N.Y.

Hi Joe,

You are correct. Rod Stewart's first album for J Records will be released on Oct. 22. The set is titled "It Had To Be You ... The Great American Songbook," and, as previously reported on Billboard.com, it features classics like the title cut, Jerome Kern and Dorthy Fields' "The Way You Look Tonight," and George and Ira Gershwin's "They Can't Take That Away."

Stewart will promote the album?s release on an array of U.S. television talk shows, including "The Oprah Winfrey Show," "Larry King Live," "Charlie Rose," and "Late Show with David Letterman."

Stewart's last studio effort, 2000's "Human" (Atlantic), debuted and peaked at No. 50 on The Billboard 200 and has sold 237,000 copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan. The singer also released a hits package in late 2001, titled "The Very Best Of Rod Stewart," which climbed to No. 40 and has sold 621,000 copies.

Could you settle and on going question? Who between Sammy Hagar and David Lee Roth sold more albums when they were in the band Van Halen?

Thank you

I'm assuming you are asking how many albums Van Halen sold with each singer. David Lee Roth was on board for six studio albums, through 1984's Warner Bros. set "1984." Those six discs have been certified as having shipped 33 million copies in the U.S., according to the Recording Industry Association of America. Conversely, 13 million units of Hagar's five releases with the band have made their way to U.S. retailers.

However, Hagar's tenure with the group saw every one of their studio releases debut at No. 1 on The Billboard 200, while his one other album with the group, the double-disc "Live: Right Here, Right Now," reached No. 5. Van Halen never achieved a No. 1 album while David Lee Roth fronted the group.

David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar mounted a successful summer tour together earlier this summer, and, as previously reported on Billboard.com, Hagar will release a new studio set, "Not 4 Sale" on Oct. 8.

Hello Keith!

I was wondering what the radio release date is of Madonna's "Die Another Day?" It must be soon right?

Hi Floris,

According to Maverick, "Die Another Day" is going for radio play on Oct. 15 in the U.S. The music video should premiere near that date as well.

The single is the title track of the forthcoming James Bond film, which is due out Nov. 22 in the U.S. and U.K. The soundtrack to the movie will be released through Maverick, and will hit stores Nov. 12.
