American Idol season two alum Rickey E. Smith was killed in a head-on collision early Friday morning (May 6), according to reports from local news and TMZ

Smith was in a multi-car wreck in Oklahoma City on I-240. A motorist driving a pickup truck in the wrong direction struck Smith's Accord head-on. The driver has been arrested and was reportedly charged with driving under the influence.

Smith, 36, competed during Ruben Studdard's season of American Idol and finished in eighth place. Smith -- a Texas native -- was a teacher prior to his Idol audition. After his elimination, he continued to perform, including an appearance in a production of Oz: The Musical.

Smith also performed several times alongside season six alum Melinda Doolittle, who mourned the singer on her Instagram account.
