Ahead of their U.S. tour, the Dixie Chicks performed a faithful cover of Beyonce’s folky “Daddy Lessons” at a concert in Manchester, England, on Saturday night (April 30). The track is off of Beyonce’s new album Lemonade, which currently tops the Billboard 200.

“[Beyonce] wanted to keep it just as organic, as simple as possible,” “Daddy Lessons” co-writer Kevin Cossom told Billboard of the song.

“It painted a country picture in our minds,” he added. “It sounded tough. ‘So my daddy said shoot.’ You see the whiskey on the table. You see the rifle. It just had that feel to it. It didn’t take the hip-hop element to make it tough, which I think is very cool especially for Beyonce. And it goes with her being from Texas. Her vibe to it just makes sense for how it all came together.”

The live rendition by the Dixie Chicks – who also recently paid tribute to Prince with a cover of “Nothing Compares 2 U” – can be watched below.
