It didn't take long for artists at the second weekend of Coachella to begin paying their respects to Prince, who died suddenly Thursday.
Mavis Staples, who played in the Gobi tent in the very early afternoon, said onstage, "Yesterday, I lost a dear friend -- my son. I'm talking about Prince. He was my angel."
She continued, telling a story of how she met the legend -- who would eventually sign her to his Paisley Park label, where she stayed for seven years, eventually releasing two albums on the imprint and appearing in the film Graffiti Bridge.
