Anyone who was on hand to witness the 2006 Brit Awards will undoubtedly have one special takeaway. Sure, Kaiser Chiefs won a hattrick of awards, and the likes of James Blunt, Green Day and Coldplay made multiple trips to the podium. But it was the performance of Prince that made the night.

The music icon took the stage early in the program and blew everyone away. The late superstar was joined with former bandmembers Sheila E and Wendy & Lisa for a set which featured "Te Amo Corazón," "Fury," "Purple Rain" and "Let's Go Crazy."

The British industry was left gobsmacked by the spectacle. And it turned out to be a tall order for any performer to follow (just ask Gorillaz, Coldplay, Kanye West, Kelly Clarkson and Jack Johnson).

Prince blew British minds on a grand scale the following year when he booked and sold-out a 21-night residency at London’s 02 Arena. The legend passed away earlier Thursday, at age 57, in his Paisley Park home.
