Liza Minnelli is getting ready for a legal fight against VH1. She and husband David Gest have hired lawyer Michael Sherman, who represented Kennedy cousin Michael Skakel in his recent murder trial, "to seek appropriate remedies and take appropriate action" against the network.

As previously reported, VH1 pulled the plug on Minnelli's planned reality television show, complaining that Gest was impossible to work with. At the time, a VH1 spokesperson said they weren't "given the cooperation" they needed to make the show happen. The network did say that through it all Minnelli was terrific.

Before the project was shelved, about 60 hours of footage was shot, including segments with Ray Charles and Luther Vandross. Sherman said he thinks "people would have enjoyed seeing it." And, he says "the case is not necessarily about money, it's about fairness."
