The Traveling Wilburys Set to Debut On Streaming Services; 2007 'Collection' To Relaunch: Exclusive
Starting June 3, the music of The Traveling Wilburys will be available on streaming services for the first time.
The digital deal, which includes all major services such as Apple Music and Spotify, is part of a worldwide licensing agreement Concord Bicycle Music has entered with the Traveling Wilburys to represent the iconic group’s catalog for both physical and digital reissues.
The band -- composed of Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Jeff Lynne, Roy Orbison and Tom Petty -- formed in 1988 and released two albums on Warner Bros., 1988’s Traveling Wilburys Vol. 1 and 1990’s Traveling Wilburys Vol. 3 (recorded after Orbison’s death). Vol. 1 reached No. 3 on the Billboard 200, while Vol. 3 peaked at No. 11.
Concurrent with the streaming bow, Concord Bicycle will re-launch The Traveling Wilburys Collection, a box set originally released in 2007 by Rhino. The Collection, which includes Vol. 1 and Vol. 3, bonus tracks and a DVD, comes in several formats: a limited edition, numbered 2-CD, 1-DVD box set; a standard 2-CD, 1-DVD package; deluxe 180-gram vinyl box, and as high-resolution downloads.
The Wilburys members originally came together to record “Handle With Care,” which was slotted to be issued as the B-side for Harrison’s single, “This is Love.” Instead, the group released the song under the Wilburys name and recorded an album. The album also included the hit, “End Of The Line” and earned the Wilburys a Grammy for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group and a Grammy nomination for album of the year.
Scott Pascucci, CEO Concord Bicycle Music and Sig Sigworth, senior VP catalog Concord Bicycle Music -- both of whom worked on the 2007 collection while at Rhino -- said in a joint statement, “The global success of The Traveling Wilburys reissues in 2007 was one of our career highlights. So, we are very proud to bring the Wilburys' catalog to Concord Bicycle Music and work with these incredible songs and musicians a second time.”
Earlier this year, Concord Bicycle’s publishing arm, Bicycle Music Company, entered into an exclusive worldwide agreement with the estate of George Harrison for his Harrisongs catalog, which includes much of his Beatles work, his solo material, and his contributions to the Traveling Wilburys’ albums.
