In a video announcing the deal, Chance -- who frequently wears his Sox gear in public -- serves up some takes from a commercial shoot in the Sox's stadium where he tries to figure out the right way to hype his latest release. "I want every player in the new approved Sox caps!" he yells into the dugout phone at one point, before demonstrating how the snapbacks -- which will be available in a limited 2,000-piece run at Friday's home opener, the New Era website, MLB.com and ChanceRaps.com -- work from the stands and the batter's box.
ESPN reported that the team is close to signing a deal for Chance, 22, to serve as a club ambassador that will "pay him to be part of club activities aimed at helping to market the team to a younger audience." The team's senior vice president of sales and marketing, Brooks Boyer, said of the deal, "we want to talk to those who are even younger, to develop interest from the Hispanic and the African-American markets. Chance resonates with them."
