Katharine McPhee Returns to 'American Idol' With Iconic Performance: Watch

American Idol fans got McPheever all over again when Katharine McPhee returned to reprise her iconic performance of Judy Garland's "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" on Thursday night's (March 24) episode.

The Scorpion star looked elegant as she began the song a capella, just like she did when she competed on the fifth season of the Fox singing competition.

McPhee -- who recorded her debut album with 19 Recordings in 2007 and went on to star on the NBC show Smash -- recently released the album, Hysteria, featuring the single "Lick My Lips."

Although she is listed for a scheduled appearance on the finale, the singer tweeted tonight was her "final" appearance.

In a lighthearted moment, host Ryan Seacrest brought out an Idol staff member and McPhee superfan -- Oscar -- who once campaigned for the star to win when he was in seventh grade by passing out donuts and bumper stickers to his classmates.
