'Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds' was a big influence.

Zayn Malik did a deep dive into the Beatles catalog while working on his solo debut, Mind of Mine, which drops on Friday.

Seeking inspiration from the original boy band, the former One Direction star told the NME that he was fascinated by one of the Fab Four's most iconic tracks while working on the song "Fool For You," a pop ballad that has an "In My Life" sort of vibe.

"I was listening to a lot of John Lennon the week I got that loop," Zayn told the magazine. "And there was this one song I got addicted to, with Indian music at the front of it, sitar, and then it becomes, like, another song," he explained, referring to the Beatles' iconic "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds."

Zayn also gave fans a bit of insight into the inspiration behind the album's trippy title, saying, "It’s really reflective of the whole experience that I want to give the listener. I wanted it to be almost like a brainstorm. It’s just music and it’s just whatever you’re feeling at that moment in time."

We'll have to wait to see if Zayn's first solo effort will hit No. 1 in its first week –– but he's already landed a No. 1 Hot 100 hit with first single "Pillowtalk."
