Newly confirmed to the dizzying lineup of stars surrounding the NFL's championship game are performances by Santana, Michelle Branch, Beyonce Knowles, Bon Jovi, the Goo Goo Dolls, Styx, and DJ Skribble. This year's contest will be broadcast in the U.S. on ABC live from Qualcomm Stadium.
Outside of the game, rock act the Goo Goo Dolls will perform at the NFL's Tailgate Party. One song from the pre-game performance -- which will be attended by a select audience of players, fans, and celebrities -- will be televised on ABC. Other NFL-sponsored entertainment outside the stadium will feature Styx and DJ Skribble.
The on-field pre-game festivities will feature Santana & Friends on the center stage, where Carlos Santana's namesake band will perform with Branch and Knowles. They will be joined by a troupe of 850 local dancers for the show, which will be broadcast in full by ABC.
As previously reported, Celine Dion will perform "God Bless America" and the Dixie Chicks will deliver the National Anthem prior to the game's scheduled 6 p.m. ET kickoff. San Diego resident Janet Maxwell will sign the anthem while a Color Guard representing America's Armed Forces will present the colors.
Re-enactment groups and service veterans from America's seven major wars will also participate in the ceremony, which will be followed by a fly-over by the U.S. Navy's F/A-18 Super Hornets.
After two quarters of football are played, previously announced participants Shania Twain and No Doubt will star in the AT&T Wireless-sponsored halftime show. After the game is complete, Bon Jovi will perform before the presentation of the Vince Lombardi Trophy to the Super Bowl winners and the game's MVP award. Bon Jovi previously teamed with the NFL for a season-opening concert in New York's Times Square (that also starred Enrique Iglesias, Alicia Keys, Eve, and DJ Skribble) and a halftime performance during that evening's New York Giants/San Francisco 49ers game.
If that wasn't enough, on the night before the big game, the Goo Goo Dolls will perform at the NFL Experience, a weeklong event at San Diego's South Embarcadero Marina Park. Tickets for the Goos performance in the Best Buy Super Bowl Concert Series, co-sponsored by Playstation 2, went on sale earlier today (Jan. 15) via Ticketmaster.
The concert series, which will be hosted by several NFL stars, will kick off Jan. 24 with a show by an as-yet-unannounced artist. A limited number of tickets will be made available each night at the shows, with proceeds from those sales donated to the NFL's charitable efforts in San Diego. Admission to the America Online-sponsored NFL Experience is separate.
