The album, like its predecessor "Rings Around the World," will be released simultaneously with a companion DVD version.
"Phantom Power" was produced by Super Furry Animals and mixed by Beastie Boys collaborator Mario Caldato Jr. The DVD version -- to be mixed in 5.1 stereo surround sound -- will feature video accompaniments for each track, as well as bonus tracks and other extras. The band's longtime artistic director Pete Fowler is currently working on material for the DVD along with Cardiff, Wales-based NoBrake.
Tracks set for the new 14-song disc include "Golden Retriever" and "Bleed Forever," both of which were played on the group's two 2002 U.S. tours in support of "Rings." Other cuts on the new album include "Sex, War, and Robots," "Venus and Serena," and "The Undefeated."
The group has no current touring plans in support of "Phantom Power," but will play to its biggest-ever audience Saturday (March 29) at Cardiff's 72,000-capacity Millennium Stadium, performing "Golden Retriever" prior to the sold-out European Championship qualifying soccer match between Wales and Azerbaijan. The group is also scheduled to play an April 19 gig at London's Royal Festival Hall, as part of the Stephen Malkmus-curated "Down the Dustpipe" festival.
"Rings Around the World" debuted at No. 32 on Billboard's Top Independent Albums tally, and has sold 31,000 copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan.
