Eclectic Artists Dig Into 'Holes' Soundtrack
Shaggy, Moby, Fiction Plane, and Eagle-Eye Cherry are among the artists who have contributed songs to the soundtrack to Walt Disney Pictures' "Holes," based on the popular book of the same name. Due April 15 on Walt Disney Records, the set also includes songs by Eels, Keb' Mo', Dr. John, Devin Thompson, and the North Mississippi All-Stars, among others.
The Eels offer two previously unreleased songs, "Mighty Fine Blues" and "Eyes Down," while "If Only" is a track by Fiction Plane not found on the group's debut MCA album, "Everything Will Never Be OK." According to his official Web site, Eagle-Eye Cherry's "Don't Give Up" is also slated for inclusion on his as-yet-unnamed new album, due out in September.
Moby contributes "Honey," the lead track from his 1999 album "Play," while Shaggy's "Hot Shot" (MCA) album is mined for the song "Keep'n It Real." Dr. John adds "Let's Make a Better World," which originally appeared on his 1974 album "Desitively Bonnaroo," and country artist Stephanie Bentley adds a new version of the Gloria Gaynor disco classic "I Will Survive."
Set to open April 18 in U.S. theaters, "Holes" stars Sigourney Weaver as a camp director who orders her charges to dig holes in an effort to "to build character." The film's young hero, played by Shia LaBeouf ("Even Stevens"), and his pals become suspicious of the intentions of Weaver and her cohorts, played by Jon Voight and Tim Blake Nelson, and attempt to discover for what it is they are really digging. LaBeouf and his co-stars, known as the D-Tent Boys, also perform the soundtrack's lead off song, "Dig It."
