Adele perfoms live on stage at the Brit Awards 2016 at The O2 Arena on Feb. 24, 2016 in London, England.

Adele's album 25 may have missed out on this year's Grammys, because its November 2015 release date means it will first be eligible for the 2017 awards, but Germany has come out to celebrate the British soul sensation.

The nominations for the Echo Awards, Germany's Grammy equivalent, were announced Thursday, and Adele tops this list. She picked up three nominations: album of the year; best female artist, international; and hit of the year, a best song honor, for "Hello," the first single off 25.

Only home-grown diva Helene Fischer could match that tally. The blond hit-maker also picked up three Echo nominations, including for best album, for her holiday release, Weinnachten. But Fischer's other two noms are in minor categories: best crossover act and best German music DVD/Blu-ray.

Adele is the only international artist in the running for the best album honor, going up against Fischer, Sarah Conner (for Muttersprache), Santiano (Von Liebe, Tod und Freiheit) and the compilation album Sing Meinen Song, Das Tauschkonzert Vol. 2, a spinoff from a hit German TV reality show.

In the best female artist, international category, Adele faces tougher competition, with Taylor Swift, nominated for 1989; Madonna (Rebel Heart); Enya (Dark Sky Island); and Austrian pop star Christina Sturmer (Gestern. Heute — Best Of).

The late, great David Bowie received a posthumous Echo nomination in the best male artist, international category for his final album, Blackstar. Justin Bieber, James Bay, Ed Sheeran and Mark Knopfler are also nominated in the same category.

Other major acts picking up Echo nominations include Coldplay, Mumford & Sons, One Direction, Sunrise Avenue and Florence + The Machine, who together make up the nominees for best rock/pop act. For best hip hop/urban act, international, Grammy winner Kendrick Lamar goes up against Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Dr. Dre, Chris Brown & Tyga and The Weeknd. The Weeknd and James Bay each picked up a second Echo nom, in the category best newcomer, international.

Motorhead, whose frontman Lemmy died late last year, earned an Echo nomination in the best rock/alternative, international category and will face fellow head-banging veterans AC/DC and Iron Maiden, as well as British act Placebo and Finnish metal band Nightwish.

The 2016 Echo Awards will be handed out in Berlin on April 7.
