Kentucky-bred country star John Michael Montgomery's career will be celebrated Aug. 26 with the Warner Bros. Records release of "The Very Best of John Michael Montgomery."

The single-disc collection culls 18 tracks from the singer/guitarist's decade-long career, adding in two brand-new cuts, "Cool" and "One Day Less" for good measure. The set includes seven No. 1 country singles in all, including "I Swear," "Be My Baby Tonight," "I Love the Way You Love Me," "Sold (the Grundy County Auction Incident)" and "The Little Girl" with Alison Krauss.

Montgomery, who started playing guitar at age 5 in his father's local band, debuted nationally in 1992 with the Atlantic album "Life's a Dance," and has gone on to sell 8.8 million copies of his eight studio albums, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

A 1997 Atlantic best-of collection, "Greatest Hits," sold 1.06 million copies. His latest studio album, 2002's "Pictures" (Warner Bros.) debuted at No. 13 on Billboard's Top Country Albums chart last October.
