American Idol season 11 semifinalist Brielle Von Hugel and Postmodern Jukebox are giving a new twist to Selena Gomez's "Same Old Love" in one of the group's recent videos.

Von Hugel, a 21-year-old Staten Island native, wraps her smoky, bluesy vocals around the lyrics as the band transforms the song into what leader Scott Bradlee describes as a "New Orleans-Dirge-style" remake.

"She has a rare gift as a vocalist to combine old and new and still connect with an audience," he wrote.

Von Hugel comes from a musical family. Her father is a doo-wop vocalist who sang lead for the Duprees.

She competed on Idol when she was just 17; fans can visit her YouTube channel to sample her covers, including a classy take on  "Hello" by Adele.
