M83 Starts Search For a New Bandmate
If you can sing and play keys, and you’re a girl, then M83 is looking at you.
The French electronic act has a new album slated for release this year, though Morgan Kibby (who played keyboards, sang and provided arrangements on earlier recordings) wasn’t involved in the sessions.
With a tour due kick off just two months from now, bandleader Anthony Gonzalez has belatedly launched a search for a replacement. He’s calling on suitable candidates to send video for proof of talent.
“Back in 2011 I opened up the search for a musician to join the M83 tour. That turned out to be Jordan Lawlor who played with us all over the world and is still in the band,” Gonzalez writes in a message posted on M83’s Website.
“This time I am looking for a female singer who can also play keyboard to join us. Take a look at the requirements below, if you think you fit the role enter your details and send us a video of you singing and a video of you playing keys below.”
Gonzalez has gone on the record as describing the new LP as “very epic” and that it’s “quite different” from the band’s previous work. “It’s more fun and fresh than my last album,” Gonzalez said. “But it’s good to take your listeners into a different maze, you know?” The title and release date of the new set, the follow-up to 2011's Hurry Up, We're Dreaming, has yet to be revealed.
M83’s tour of North America starts April 6 at The Civic Theatre, New Orleans, with European dates following from July 7 at BBK in Bilbao, Spain.
