Bieber and Drake are tied with five apiece; both are up for fan choice, single, album and artist of the year. The two differ in their respective genres: Drake gets a nod in the rap recording category and Bieber for pop album.

Newcomers Cara and Mendes each have four. Cara gets to compete for fan choice, single, breakthrough artist and R&B/soul recording, while Mendes also get appreciated in fan choice, album, artist and pop album.
Cara and Mendes will also perform on the CTV televised awards show, on April 3, joining Bryan Adams and country artist Dean Brody. The remaining performers will be announced in the coming weeks, in addition to the host and the Allan Waters Humanitarian Award recipient.
Burton Cummings, of the Guess Who and noted solo career, will be inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, and Rosalie Trombley, a pioneer for women in broadcasting, will be honored with the Walt Grealis Special Achievement Award.

Artists with three nominations each include Polaris Music Prize winner Buffy Sainte-Marie for songwriter, aboriginal album and contemporary roots album); City and Colour for artist, songwriter and Jack Richardson producer of the year; Tobias Jesso Jr. for breakthrough artist, songwriter and adult alternative album; and Walk Off the Earth for fan choice, group and pop album.
"2016 has been an absolutely phenomenal year for Canadian artists, here at home and around the globe," Allan Reid, CEO of the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences/The Juno Awards, said at the press conference.
"Just back in December, seven of the top 10 artists on the Billboard Hot 100 charts were Canadian. I've been in the industry longer than 25 years and I've got to say not since the 90s, when we had Alanis and Shania and Sarah and Celine, have we seen our artists dominate the charts like this. It's absolutely incredible."
