Season 5's top 24 performed the late Eagles guitarist Glenn Frey's song in 2006

The music world was dealt another blow with the death of Eagles guitarist Glenn Frey who died at the age of 67 on Monday (Jan. 18). Frey's musical influence was far reaching, including many American Idol contestants.

Back in the day, the Fox singing competition would open the show with group numbers and during season 5 the top 24 took on the Eagles' classic "Take It Easy," co-written by Jackson Browne and Frey.

Season 5 was chock full of talent, including winner Taylor Hicks, Katharine McPhee, Kellie Pickler, Chris Daughtry, Bucky Covington, Mandisa, Ace Young, Paris Bennett, Kevin Covais, Becky O'Donohue, Ayla Brown, Stevie Scott, Brenna Gethers, Heather Cox, Melissa McGhee, Lisa Tucker, Kinnick Sky, Patrick Hall, Will Makar, Sway Penala, Bobby Bennet, David Radford and Gedeon McKinney. 

Earlier Monday, Hicks paid tribute to Frey on Twitter.
