Kana Nishino Dominates 2 Consecutive Years at Billboard Japan Music Awards

J-pop darling Kana Nishino once again dominated the Billboard Japan Music Awards fan voting and continued her reign for a second year.

In an effort to demonstrate the increasing affect user interactivity has on popular music charts, the Billboard Japan Music Awards 2015 asked users to vote for their "Song of the Year" via Twitter and karaoke. Users could vote for any song which charted on the Billboard Japan Hot 100 Year-End Chart 2015 with a tweet including the song's title, artist name and hashtag #BJMA2015 or perform the song using the karaoke service "DAM" provided by Daiichi Kosho. The voting ran through December 11-31, 2015 and results were combined 50:50 to choose the winner.

Last year's winner Kana Nishino bagged the #1 spot for “Torisetsu” which placed #3 on Twitter and #4 on karaoke results. 4 of Kana's songs including "Moshimo Unmei No Hito Ga Irunonara," "Darling" and "Suki" ranked within the Top 10, showcasing her immense popularity in the J-Pop music scene. Previously, "Darling" took home the #1 prize at the Billboard Japan Music Awards 2014, making this year's win her 2nd consecutive win.

Sandaime J Soul Brothers & Carly Rae Jepsen Lead Billboard Japan's Year-End Charts

Motohiro Hata's 2014 monster hit "Himawari No Yakusoku" theme song to the popular 3D animated film "Stand by Me Doraemon" charted at #2, making it the 2nd consecutive year the song ranked at #2. The song placed at #5 on Twitter, #3 on karaoke results.

Rock band, back number's "Christmas Song" topped the karaoke results ranking at #3 overall and K-Pop duo Toho Shinki (TVXQ)'s  "Sakuramichi" nabbed the #1 spot for Twitter rankings coming in at #4 overall.

Over 2.7 million tweets were submitted during the voting period.
