Clay Aiken may have voiced his displeasure with the American Idol season premiere last night, but in a new promo released by Fox, the season 2 runner-up is onboard with the mission to find the final Idol winner.

"It's cool to be here with these folks in this really nerve-racking time," he says in a taped interview at the Philadelphia auditions, which will air next week. "It is the moment of truth for a lot of these auditioners. I am going to be here to talk to people as they go in and out of the auditions."

The promo also features interviews with season 5 winner Taylor Hicks and season 8 winner Kris Allen, who reports in from his hometown of Little Rock, Ark.

"It's really cool, man, it brings back all the good stuff, all the good memories," says Allen, who takes time to talk to contestants, take pictures and, in his words, "calm their nerves." "When I heard that this was going to be the farewell season on Fox, I think my thought was celebration. How amazing it has been on for this long and been this great."

There is more on the line this season, Aiken says, because of the finality of it all. "The folks who are here today know how big this is, know how big this can be," he says. "A lot more is riding on these auditions for these folks today than we realize what was riding on ours."

Hicks believes that people will miss Idol when it's gone. "I think the show is one of the greatest shows on television."

Also shown in the clip is season 2 winner Ruben Studdard and season 9 winner Lee DeWyze.

The auditions continue Thursday night (Jan. 7) at 8 p.m. ET on Fox.
