Ryan Seacrest Reveals His Pick for Biggest 'American Idol' Star
Tomorrow night, Jennifer Lopez, Harry Connick Jr., and Keith Urban will begin their search for the last American Idol winner. Let that sink in: the last ever singer to be standing in the confetti after host Ryan Seacrest announces their name.
"I was just sort of thinking about that last episode, the last night, the final time we crown a winner and how emotional that will be," Seacrest told Today on Tuesday (Jan. 5) . "I love this show."
It's a scene Idol viewers have seen 14 times prior, but according to Seacrest, the show has one big supernova, and it's season four victor Carrie Underwood.
"Kelly (Clarkson) too, but I was just on New Years with Carrie and she's just a superstar," he said. "She really is."
As for his future after the show, Seacrest says he is "looking for something" to do when the show concludes in April.
"I can't imagine life without going on the auditions every summer and then doing this show for months afterwards," he said.
The host also shared that the show has invited all of the original judges and past winners to participate in the farewell season, with a focus on the competition but also "nostalgia."
American Idol's farewell season kicks off on Fox at 8 p.m. Jan. 6.
