Jack White Scales 'Cold Mountain'

White Stripes frontman Jack White will contribute five tracks to the "Cold Mountain" soundtrack, due Dec. 16 from DMZ/Columbia. Among them are the traditional "Wayfaring Stranger," Howlin' Wolf's "Sittin' on Top of the World," the Ralph Stanley-popularized "Great High Mountain," and the originals "Never Far Away" and "Christmas Time Will Soon Be Over."

White also has a small role in "Cold Mountain," a Civil War-era drama adapted from Charles Frazier's best-selling book and starring Nicole Kidman, Jude Law and Renee Zellweger. The film opens Dec. 25 in U.S. theaters.

Other tracks on the set include two cuts from Alison Krauss, Reeltime Travelers' "Like a Songbird That Has Fallen," and three songs featuring former Cordelia's Dad lead singer Tim Eriksen. Pianist Gabriel Yared backs Kidman (on vocals) on "Ada Plays."
