Keith Caulfield answers readers' questions about Fountains Of Wayne, Diane Schuur and Justin Guarini.'FOUNTAIN' OF CONVERSATION
First off, thanks for taking time to answer these questions! Anyway, I have been a huge Fountains Of Wayne fan for years now, and I think its great they have a top-40 hit right now (though I wish the latest CD would finally crack the top half of the album chart). But while I wait, I was wondering what the sales totals are currently for "Welcome Interstate Managers," along with the band's two previous CDs, "Utopia Parkway" and its self-titled debut.
Fountains Of Wayne have sold 187,000 copies of "Welcome Interstate Managers" according to Nielsen SoundScan. The album's hit single, "Stacy's Mom," is at No. 25 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week. The S-Curve track peaked at No. 21 earlier this month.
Fountains Of Wayne have released two other critically acclaimed albums. In 1999, "Utopia Parkway" was issued and has sold 67,000. The band's self-titled debut came out in 1996 and has since sold 125,000.
WHATCHOO 'TALKIN' ABOUT?
I have the Diane Schuur CD "Talkin' 'Bout You," but unfortunately, it was recently badly scratched and cannot be repaired! I have searched just about every Web site looking for this CD -- it's like it never existed. Can you please tell me why I can't find it, and hopefully where I can go to get it replaced?
Unfortunately, "Talkin' 'Bout You" is no longer in print -- meaning it is not currently manufactured. Your best bet is to check out Ebay.com or other online sites (and used record stores) to see if you can locate an old copy.
The GRP album, released in 1988, spent nine weeks at No. 1 on our Top Jazz Albums chart.
JUSTIN IN THE MARKETPLACE
My question refers to Justin Guarini's self-titled debut album. I was wondering how many albums he has sold to date. A lot of his fans bought the album on his birthday (Oct. 28) and we are anxious to see what the actual numbers were.
To date, Justin Guarini's album has sold 134,000 in the U.S. according to Nielsen SoundScan. His sales have been stable for the past few weeks -- including the week where you and other fans celebrated his birthday by purchasing an album.
