Here's Why Adele Wasn't Nominated for Any Grammys This Year
It's simple: It wasn't eligible. As many fans likely forgot while they were freaking out about the perceived snub on Twitter, the Grammys have an eligibility period that cuts off the last few months of the calendar year, leading to winter releases being considered the following year. The qualifying dates for the 2016 ceremony include releases dropped between October 1, 2014 and September 30, 2015.
This is why Taylor Swift's massive 1989 album is nominated for album of the year this year, while her lead summer single off the album, "Shake It Off," competed as a song/record of the year nominee last year.
Adeleholics shouldn't fear, however: While nothing has been officially announced, it seems likely that Adele will take the Grammy stage come February for a showstopping performance of some kind.
