Gwen Stefani is feeling pretty good these days.

Her new single "Used to Love You" is taking off on the charts, and the singer couldn't be more excited. "Can I just say before we get going, I can’t believe I’m here right now," she shared on Z100 Thursday morning (Dec. 3). "I cannot believe how rad and magical my life is. I woke up and I’m No. 5 on iTunes this morning with ‘Used to Love You,’ which is like a true miracle to have a song that is so reflecting this crazy, crazy year for me and I just can believe I’m going to be on the radio and I’m here right now and that this is happening! Can you pinch me? ... I just wanted to say it because it doesn’t sink in, it’s just so insane!"

She also opened up about her divorce from Gavin Rossdale and how that's affected her music. "I went into the studio, and everybody knows pretty much what happened to me," she said. "I got a divorce or whatever, which completely was not in the plan at all. … For me, it surely wasn’t and [it was] a shock and a horrible, crazy explosion in my life. At that time, I was like, I wanted to go in and write and I had a plan to make a record and I made a record the year before really, but I hadn’t written it. I just had the baby, it was the time with Pharrell, I started The Voice. I did ‘Baby Don’t Lie,’ which is interesting how those lyrics worked out to be like a precursor to the future. It’s crazy how I just didn’t feel comfortable not writing my record, it didn’t feel right. It wasn’t time!

"Then all of a sudden I went in and it was one of those things where I had to force myself to go to the studio because I really just wanted to be in bed crying and do what you do when your life falls apart and I didn’t. One of my girlfriends Sophie Muller, who does a lot of my creative stuff with me, she did my ‘Used to Love You’ video and ‘Don’t Speak’ and she’s one of my best friends. I don’t know what it was but she was with me the whole time during this whole thing, I mean literally FaceTime wherever she was in the world. One of those people where you’re like, ‘How are you that great? How are you that great of a friend to me?’ … So I went to the studio and I was just convinced that I had to make something out of this. There’s no way, I’m not going to go online and waste my time, I’m going to do something creative. So I went to the studio and started writing. Well I wrote my first song and it was like a little rosebud just blossoming, and I was like, ‘Wow! It’s happening I can do this!’ I know that every time I go into the studio I’m going to write a song and it’s the most incredible feeling. Literally there is nothing like writing a song! It’s like you have to be in the room to see it happen because even the people writing it that are doing it all the time are like, ‘Woah! That’s a good one!’”
