Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age, the Muppets. The multi-talented Dave Grohl always answers the call, always fits right in.

Grohl has reunited with Muppets rock house band The Electric Mayhem for a cover of the 1999 Foo Fighters’ hit "Learn to Fly".

"So, you guys remember how we did it in rehearsal?" Grohl asked his furry friends during The Muppets winter finale, which aired overnight on ABC. It turns out the little guys prefer to ad-lib. "Oh, we like to do it different from rehearsal," said Janice. "OK, well then why did we even rehearse?" Grohl continued. "Oh, 'cause if we don't rehearse then there's nothing to do it different from," Floyd Pepper explained. "You know I actually dig that," Grohl concluded. Elsewhere, a side-story played out with Gonzo performing some flying of his own.

Grohl is on a first-name basis with the Muppets. He played "Animool" in the 2011 Muppets Movie and earlier this week footage went viral of his kit-crashing drum-battle with Animal, a scene which played out in the latest “Going Going Gonzo” episode.

"Learn to Fly" took off early in the year when 1,000 Foos fans performed the song as way to entice the rockers to visit the northern city of Cesena. It worked. Grohl’s band rolled into town in November to play a marathon set. They opened with “Learn to Fly.”
