Amy Schumer poses for the Pirelli Calendar.

The 2016 Pirelli calendar is here and it's a whole different kind of celebration of women than it's been since 1964, when the Italian tire company launched its highly coveted annual who's who of powerhouse models and photographers.

Instead of supermodels (although there is one -- lauded this time for her charitable work) the 43rd edition showcases women of all ages who are titans of entertainment (chairperson of Lucasfilm Kathleen Kennedy) and (screenwriter and director, Ava Duvernay), sports (Serena Williams), comedy (Amy Schumer), business (financial mogul Mellody Hobson), philanthropy (Natalie Vodianova), music (Patti Smith) and the arts (Iranian visual artist Shirin Neshat) among others.

In addition to the portraits, all shot in black and white by Annie Leibovitz, the calendar also features paragraphs about each woman's contributions and accomplishments.

But there is one shot in the calendar that harkens back to Pirelli's tradition of celebrating the female form. This time it's Amy Schumer as December's model, holding a Starbucks cup and looking utterly unfazed in nothing but heels and a pair of panties.

Leibovitz told Elle that she came up with the idea for the Schumer shot at the last minute, proposing on the spot that Schumer pose nude ironically.

"She got the whole concept completely," said Leibovitz. "She's so bright. She was willing to play that role. I was worried for her, I said 'Are you self-conscious?' [Amy] said, 'Are you kidding? I love my body.'"
