Timbaland Teases Country Collaboration With Justin Timberlake

In a new interview with TMZ, Timbaland teased a possible country album in the works with collaborator Justin Timberlake, putting fans of Timberlake's last country-inflected song "Drink You Away" on high alert. After Timberlake performed that song with Chris Stapleton at the CMA Awards, Stapleton shot to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and "Drink" has been re-edited for country radio.

Will Country Radio Take a Taste of Justin Timberlake's 'Drink'?

"'Drink You Away' was done on The 20/20 Experience," Timbaland points out to TMZ, referring to Timberlake's last album, on which he was a producer. "It’s now starting to be one of the biggest songs." When TMZ pressed him to confirm that the two are indeed at work on a country album, Timbaland responded, "Now that you put it out there, why not?" He also pointed out that he already has a house in Nashville and that both he and JT "are country. He's from Tennessee, I'm from Virginia. It's only right that we try to tap into what we was raised in."

It's hard to tell by Timbaland's tone if he's just humoring this line of questioning or if he's actually hinting at something that's already underway. Perhaps the fate of "Drink" on the country charts will spell the difference.
