UMPG Signs Soundtrack Deal with Film Studio Behind 'The Gift'

STX is shooting films with Nicole Kidman, Julia Roberts, Matthew McConaughey and others.

Universal Music Publishing Group has struck an exclusive, global agreement with the L.A.-based motion picture and television studio STX Entertainment.

Through the new pact, UMPG will administer and represent STX’s future soundtracks, scores and catalogue of related music publishing rights across all media.

Led by Robert Simonds and co-founded by Bill McGlashan, managing partner of TPG Growth, STX boasts five films set to start production over the next four months and the company says its on target to produce at least 12 major motion pictures each year.

Upcoming films on the slate include the thriller Secret in Their Eyes, starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, Nicole Kidman and Julia Roberts; The Boy, a horror from director William Brent Bell (The Devil Inside) and starring Lauren Cohan (The Walking Dead); and the action-drama The Free State of Jones, from writer-director and multiple Academy Award nominee Gary Ross and starring Matthew McConaughey, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Keri Russell and Mahershala Ali.
