Icelandic artist Björk and environmental activist Andri Snær Magnason put together a press conference at Iceland Airwaves to stress the pressing issue to preserve Iceland’s Highlands from the Icelandic government.

Prior to the conference, Björk posted a video calling for help. In the clip, she is wearing an embroidered head covering in front of a mural of a figure from Hayao Miyazaki’s animated film Princess Mononoke, itself a meditation on environmental destruction.

Björk states, “The government has plans to build over 50 dams and power plants in this area, and to start next year. This could end Iceland’s wilderness in a few years. We propose to start a national park in our highlands."
