Justin Bieber Says His 'Ex-Girlfriend' Inspires His Music in the Billboard Fishbowl Challenge: Exclusive Video

Justin Bieber's upcoming album Purpose will be written from the heart. And when the singer recently sat down with Billboard to field questions plucked from a fishbowl for our video series Fishing For Answers, the 21-year-old pop star spilled little-known tidbits about himself including what inspires his songwriting the most. "Probably my ex-girlfriend," he simply says.

In a new Billboard cover story, Bieber expands on his relationship with his former flame Selena Gomez and his feelings after their 2014 split. "I’m proud of the woman she is today,” he said. “When you love someone that much, even if something comes between you, it’s a love that never really dies.”

The pop star also kept it light while gamely answering questions from our fishbowl, saying that he thinks Vin Diesel should portray him in a movie about his life, spilling on his favorite ice-cream flavor and the funniest nickname he's been called (Hint: it comes from boxer pal Floyd Mayweather, Jr.).

Lastly, Bieber revealed the biggest misconception about his persona. "Probably that I'm a jerk," he said. "I'm not that guy. I'm a nice guy." He pauses. "I guess I can be a jerk sometimes but I'm trying to be better."
