Marr and Melbourne-born, New York-based Faker (real name Nicholas Murphy) have shared a musical affinity over recent years after checking in on social media. “Nick posted my song on Twitter,” recalls Marr, who has released a string of well-received works through DFA Records. “I messaged him and said thanks and a conversation started - all nerdy stuff about recording processes. Pretty soon we started exchanging song ideas in voice memos. He then suggested maybe we try and do something together.” Listen to "The Trouble With Us" below.
For Faker’s fans, Work can’t come soon enough. The artist has been on a hot streak Down Under, and his international reputation is on the rise. Faker’s self-produced debut album Built on Glass (Future Classic) peaked at No. 1 on the ARIA Albums Chart in 2014, and went on to scoop a pair of awards at the Australian recording industry’s flagship awards ceremony, the ARIAs, for best male artist honor and best independent release (he also won all three ARIA Artisan awards on offer at an earlier ceremony). In January of this year, his song "Talk is Cheap" took out the Triple J network's Hottest 100 poll, recognized as the biggest fan-voted competition of its kind (his songs "Gold' came in at No. 7 and "1998" was at No. 8).
