Though Stephen Colbert may be best known for poking fun at the United States' perpetually fraught political system, that doesn't mean he can't pull out a little heart-warming patriotism when the occasion requires.

In honor of Michelle Obama's visit to The Late Show Monday night, Colbert and guest John Legend performed "America The Beautiful" together (with a little assistance from Late Show bandleader Jon Batiste on melodica and his Stay Human Band). It's hard not to love Legend's rich baritone on the classic song, and the pair's earnest duet made it all the more endearing.
