Sony Music Recruits Lee Stimmel, Promotes Gavin Parry and Tony Glover


Lee Stimmel has returned to the major label business in the role as head of original content for Sony Music Entertainment.

Stimmel, who is based in New York, will be tasked with developing original content initiatives for Sony Music, and will work closely with the music giant’s U.S. labels and business units around the world to generate creative concepts.

According to a statement, Stimmel will liaise with global brands, agencies and platforms to establish strategic partnerships around video and music-related original programming from SME.

A former label exec with more than ten years on board with Sony Music, Stimmel most recently served as head of business development for Samsung North America, where he led the business’s content acquisition initiatives across all product lines. Prior to that he worked with Sony Music for over a decade including a stint as head of Columbia Record’s Creative Agency. Earlier, he was executive VP for Epic Records. He began his career as a marketing executive for Atlantic Records. 

In his new role, Stimmel reports to Dennis Kooker, SME’s president, global digital business and U.S. sales.

Meanwhile, at Sony Music's Australia affiliate in Sydney, key execs Gavin Parry and Tony Glover have been appointed to new, broader roles. 

Parry will now be responsible for physical sales in a combined Australian digital and physical sales team in the role as GM, digital, business development and sales, Australia & New Zealand and executive VP, digital & business development, Asia. 
The combination of the two sales teams will “allow staff in the division to work across both physical and digital accounts, and offer to our business partners increased experience and stronger relationships,” according to an internal memo. 
Parry joined Sony Music in 1998 as business services manager and has held several posts for the company over the years. In September 2011, in addition to his role as GM, digital & business development Australia & New Zealand, Parry was appointed to the role of EVP, digital & business development, Asia.

Glover, meanwhile, in his role of GM, commercial music group & Parade Management, will have an increased focus on the execution and strategic management of Parade, as well as continue to be responsible for maximizing the CMG catalogue, compilations, special projects, country, kids and classical releases.

“This change allows Tony to strengthen Parade’s current roster and successes, as well as develop Parade into an all-round management company which also represents sporting & media personalities and online influencers,” the company memo continues. 

Glover has risen through the ranks since joining company in February 1991 as promotions manager in Adelaide. In 2008, he was appointed as GM, commercial music group and in July 2012 was appointed to also oversee Parade Management as GM, commercial music group & Parade Management. 

Parry and Glover report to Denis Handlin, Sony Music Australasia chairman and CEO and president Asia.
