As Billy Ray Cyrus watched his daughter Miley Cyrus sport some interesting, skin-baring outfits on the MTV Video Music Awards stage Sunday (Aug. 30), it was easy for viewers to wonder what dad thinks of his daughter's fashion sense. We may not have a direct answer to that, but Billy Ray did open up about Miley's sexuality.

"We've always been very open-minded," Billy Ray told E! News at the event. "Listen, it's all about love and light. Forget the negativity and the haters."

Although some people mock Miley for her rather outlandish ways, Billy Ray sees her uniqueness as progressive during a time that equally embracing everyone's differences is necessary. "She's rocking and rolling and having a good time," he added. "What the world needs is love. There's too much hate…The world needs positive influences."

Miley recently identified herself as "pansexual" in the October issue of Elle UK, meaning she is attracted to people of any gender identity. She also mentioned she is currently going on dates, but with a pattern of changing her style "every two weeks," who she's with is practically just as sporadic. Frankly, she's just being Miley, and that's what Billy Ray has told her to do from the beginning.

"Even when she was a little girl, we told her, 'Hey, baby, do what you do and have fun doing it. Do it because you love it, not because you have to,'" Billy Ray said. "Seeing her happy is the greatest thing ever."
