Carrie Underwood connected with her fans in a Facebook Q&A Thursday (Aug. 20), but answered the question "When will you release new music?" before it even began. The answer? Now.

Underwood announced her latest single, "Smoke Break," at the same time she revealed its corresponding album, Storyteller, which will be out Oct. 23. Storyteller marks Underwood's fifth studio album, her first since 2012's Blown Away.

"I feel like a lot of the songs that I wrote and gravitated to ended up being more traditional and "twangy" than anything I have ever done before," Underwood wrote to a fan who asked about the driving force behind the album. "I just went with it!"

The country star co-penned six songs on Storyteller, including "Smoke Break," which she wrote with Hillary Lindsey and Chris DeStefano. In her video announcement, Underwood said the uptempo song "is one of those story songs that everybody can relate to about how life is so hectic and it's so nice when, if and when, you actually get to step away for a second — we all need that time to ourselves to get to take a break."

"Smoke Break" is available now on iTunes.
