Grammy Award-winning rapper LL Cool J returns this week with his 11th album, "The DEFinition," via Def Jam/IDJMG. The album, his first since 2002, features production from Timbaland, N.O. Joe and Dame Grease, among others. Lead single "Headsprung" resides at No. 10 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart.
"I wanted to make a party record -- something that was real flavorful and new, that would be hot in the clubs," LL Cool J says. "Something that was a lot of fun to listen to and people could enjoy any time. When I got with Timbaland, us working together really set the tone for everything. He [produced] the majority of the record, and we went from there."
As for "Headsprung," which features a vaguely Middle Eastern vibe not unlike the Timbaland-produced Missy Elliott smash, "Get Ur Freak On," the rapper offers, "As a track, it has an exciting energy that just feels really right. I wanted to come with something different. I didn't want to come with a ballad or a love song. I really wanted to approach this from the party point of view and really switch it up."
"THE DEFinition" is the follow-up to "10," which debuted at No. 2 on The Billboard 200 and spawned the rapper's biggest hit in six years, "Luv U Better," which reached No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100.
