Darren Criss, Aaron Tveit, Lea Salonga & More Gather for Inaugural Elsie Fest
Aaron Tveit, Lea Salonga, Leslie Odom, Jr. and Darren Criss are among the first batch of performers confirmed for the inaugural Elsie Fest, a one-day outdoor fest that celebrates songs from the stage and screen.
LiveNation and iHeartRadio are behind the first-up event, which will take place Sept. 27 at JBL Live at Pier 97 in New York.
Elsie Fest, which is anticipated to return on an annual basis, is the brainchild of Criss, the Emmy-nominated musician/actor/composer and star of Glee; talent manager Ricky Rollins and Broadway producer and Jujamcyn Theaters president Jordan Roth.
“I was at Coachella and thought ‘let's do this for showtunes,'” comments Criss in a statement. “Musical theater has been going through a wonderful shift in the past few years, from the type of work that’s being produced to the way it’s being consumed by the public. It's more than showtunes on Broadway -- it’s songs from film, TV and YouTube. Since the rules were already changing, I figured, why not shake up people’s ideas of where to watch the performers they love. Enter Elsie.”
The fest will be hosted by 106.7 LIteFM personalities Christine Nagy and Helen Little with Seth Rudetsky of Sirius XM.
Tickets are available at www.ticketmaster.com and are priced at $50 for general admission and $250 for VIP Seating. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Broadway Cares / Equity Fights Aids.
