Calvin Harris, Zayn Malik & The Summer of Twitter Beefs
The weather's not all that's heating up this summer. Tempers are running high in the world of music, leading artists to start new beefs online and in real life.
But not all feuds are created equal, or even really manage to get off the ground (ahem, Azealia Banks). Inspired by Zayn Malik and Calvin Harris' recent blow up, we've compiled our five favorite beefs of the summer to commemorate this summer of hate.
Zayn Malik vs. Calvin Harris
The former One Direction member and the superstar producer engaged in a contentious Twitter exchange that stemmed from (it seemed) criticisms of Harris' girlfriend Taylor Swift's stance against Spotify’s treatment of artist royalties and resulted in Malik calling Harris a "dickhead."
@CalvinHarris so i suggest you calm your knickers before them dentures fall out— zayn (@zaynmalik) August 17, 2015
Meek Mill vs. Drake
What what will probably go down as the biggest beef of the summer, if not all year, Meek Mill and Drake's feud all started with a simple tweet (see it below) and exploded from there. Once Mill fired shots saying Drake doesn't write his own material, the two rappers and their crews launched into a very public back-and-forth, complete with diss tracks aplenty.
Stop comparing drake to me too.... He don't write his own raps! That's why he ain't tweet my album because we found out!— Meek Mill (@MeekMill) July 22, 2015
Nicki Minaj vs. Taylor Swift
The spat between Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift was short-lived but fiery, considering these are two of the biggest names in music we're talking about. To oversimplify the whole thing, it was basically a big misunderstanding where Swift thought Minaj was calling her out when she was really making a general statement about racism and misogyny in the media. Oh yeah, and Katy Perry, Ed Sheeran, Bruno Mars, actor Aaron Paul and journalist Piers Morgan all good involved as well.
Cleveland Orchestra & San Francisco Symphony
It's pretty rare classical orchestras will swing a rhythm, let alone take one at other musicians. But it's a testament to the power of sports fanfare that the Cleveland Orchestra and San Francisco Symphony traded jabs online over the NBA playoffs in June. It was all in good fun, but surely some of those composer puns had to sting a little.
Iggy Azalea vs. "Superhero Feed" Twitter Account
Iggy Azalea's had a handful of notable beefs in recent memory: Snoop Dogg, Azealia Banks, Papa Johns, the list goes on. But the most recent was maybe the most bizarre, in which the Australian rapper targeted a Twitter account mostly dedicated to super hero news. She was just responding to some trash talk, but it's surprising this was even on her radar.
@SuperheroFeed clever, ill just be over here enjoying my millions of dollars for doing nothing while you enjoy the Fantastic 4 ;-) xoxo— IGGY AZALEA (@IGGYAZALEA) August 10, 2015
