Timeflies Goes Back to College: Duo Discusses Frat Parties, Funk Bands & Early Career

After dropping a top 10 major-label album in 2014 and garnering nearly half a million faithful YouTube subscribers, electronic/pop-rap duo Timeflies became one of last year’s biggest DIY success stories. But before the sold-out concerts and international acclaim, Rob “Rez” Resnick and Cal Shapiro were just a couple of enthusiastic college kids who honed their musical talents between frat parties and final exams.

“Looking back on those days, it’s this carefree … breeding ground for the best and worst ideas you’ve ever had in your life,” says Shapiro. “It fostered us and made us who we are. You can’t teach that.”

The duo -- who are hitting the road for their "Just For Fun" tour -- took time away from finishing their new album Just for Fun (which drops on Sept. 18) to revisit their days at Boston’s Tuft University and discuss how collegiate life helped give birth to the Timeflies phenomenon.
