Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson attends the New York premiere of "Southpaw" at AMC Loews Lincoln Square on July 20, 2015 in New York City.

Outside of his career success, 50 Cent is famously known for surviving a 2000 shooting where he was shot nine times. In his latest single, "9 Shots," the rapper relives that fateful day and other difficult memories from his past.

While premiering the track live on a New York City rooftop Wednesday (Aug. 12), 50 said it's "a little more personal" than his past projects and "a metaphor for nine painful moments" in his life.

The song will be on his upcoming album, Street King Immortal (SKI), which has seen several delays since its initial 2012 release date but is reportedly set to drop next month, according to 50. "9 Shots" will also be featured in the season 2 finale of Power, for which 50 is an executive producer.
